Enrich young minds, be a volunteer!
Art Masterpiece
What is Art Masterpiece?
Art Masterpiece is a fine arts enrichment program led by classroom volunteers
Why do we have a program like this?
The arts increase cultural literacy. In addition, studies show that comprehensive art programs markedly increase academic achievement as they reinforce concepts of problem solving, critical thinking, and spatial development. This program also aligns with our district goal of Quality Community Involvement.
What does the classroom volunteer do?
The classroom volunteers present artwork by the great masters to the class. The presentation of the work may include its history or facts about the artist. An art project or activity follows. There will be six prints per grade level, one each month from November to April.
What is my time commitment?
Visit the classroom 1x per month for 6 months (November through April.) Grades K-3rd vary from 35-45 minutes per session. 4th-6th grade range from 45-55 minutes per session. Some classes may have more than one volunteer that can share responsibilities.
Is information on the artists provided?
Yes! A folder with information on the artist and painting is provided. Art ideas and suggested projects are also included in the folder along with biographical information. Supplies are available.
Do i need to be an artist to volunteer?
No, just have an interest in art!
Is training provided?
Yes! An orientation meeting will take place after fall vacation. We will discuss the schedule of artists, the location of supplies, and any questions you may have.
